Apply for ethical approval with LCRN
LCRN provides both ethical approval and ongoing guidance around ethics for community research projects.
Our Ethics Review process focuses on ensuring research projects in Lambeth are guided by the needs and priorities of communities and the community-based organisations that serve them.
This process is open to community organisations, academics and external organisations. However, priority will be given to community organisations who do not have access to an alternative ethics review. Throughout the process we also provide tailored support with ethical considerations and challenges.
Our process
Step 1: Read our Research Charter
To begin please review our Research Charter and/or contact us to discuss your project and its suitability
Step 2: Complete the LCRN Community Research Checklist
To access support from LCRN (capacity building, brokering partnerships etc.) for your community research project, you will need to complete our LCRN Community Research Checklist. The checklist is designed to guide you through key considerations to ensure your project aligns with our values and meets our ethical standards. Your checklist will be reviewed by the LCRN Steering Group. Following this, we will update you on the outcome of your submission and next steps.
Please submit your completed checklist to Harry Jenkins, Senior Researcher at High Trees, at harry.jenkins@high-trees.org.
Step 3: Complete the LCRN Ethics Application Form
If you are looking for ethical approval, you will need to complete our LCRN Ethics Application Form. The application form is designed for you to share your project plans in detail and explain how it aligns with our values and meets our ethical standards for community research. Your application will be reviewed by the LCRN Steering Group. In some cases, your application may also be reviewed by community members.
Please submit your completed application form Harry Jenkins, Senior Researcher at High Trees, at harry.jenkins@high-trees.org.

Frequently asked questions
We can offer ongoing support to LCRN members to develop their ethics application and to complete the necessary paperwork. Please contact research@high-trees.org for more information.
We can also offer some guidance to non-LCRN members who would like to make an application for ethical approval. This support will be less intensive than that available to LCRN members.
If your application is not approved, we will offer clear guidance on the steps that would need to be taken to meet the ethical standards of the network and support to re-submit your application.
